About Ofili
Okechukwu Ofili graduated Summa Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston (www.uh.edu) in December 2004. Currently, he is a Design Engineer at FMC Energy Services, Valves and Actuators group.
Okechukwu Ofili is very driven and motivated. He is passionate about educational and community service programs that benefit younger students in college. He is involved in many Scholarship funding and planning events. Whenever possible, he speaks at educational events and forums to collegiate students.
While in college, Okechukwu was a high academic achiever. He was able to maintain a respectable GPA of 3.76 while simultaneously being involved in a host of extracurricular activities. During his time at the University, Ofili was involved in a plethora of organizations including: The Nigerian Students Association (NSA|www.uhnsa.com), The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE|www.uhnsbe.com), Frontier Fiesta, Cullen College of Engineering Ambassadors among others. He was applauded for his efforts when he wasrecognized as the 2004 Homecoming King for the University Of Houston, an award given for Academic Excellence, Outstanding Leadership and exemplary Service to the Community. Okechukwu also worked on campus as a Residential Assistant/Hall Director where he helped students create a “home away from home” and organized educational programs for the residents about issues concerning them such as drugs, relationships, and dieting.
Okechukwu has had various internship experiences with both Schlumberger (www.slb.com) and Rohm & Haas (www.rohmhaas.com) while in College. As an intern at Schlumberger, Okechukwu worked in inclement weather and rigorous working conditions as a field engineer in offshore locations such as the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. At Rohm & Haas, he was primarily in-charge of putting the plants flexible connectors in compliance with corporate standards. Utilizing the plants RBMI (Risk Based Mechanical Integrity) program, he was able to develop inspection work plans for flexible connectors in the plant. He supervised and implemented the visual inspection of all 926 flexibleconnectors at the Rohm & Haas Deer Park plant.
Today Okechukwu works with FMC Technologies (www.fmcti.com) as a design engineer, where he has been for roughly two years. Okechukwu is in charge of the design of surface and valve actuators. Despite entering the work force full-time, Okechukwu has still maintained a high level of interest and involvement in the community. He is an active member of the NSBE-Houston Alumni Extension (NSBE-HAE|www.nsbe-hae.org) as well as the University Of Houston Engineering Alumni Association (UHEAA|http://www.egr.uh.edu/alumni). In both organizations, he is very involved in community service events and has personally funded several scholarships at the collegiate level. He lends a lot of his time as a volunteer speaker at various events around the community.
All in all, Okechukwu Ofili has a passion for teaching and spends most of his free time sharing his life experiences, in a hope to improve the lives of the people around him.
